Thần làng Bố Bái là tinh của Viêm Long. Xưa ở làng Hạn Kiều thuộc lộ Hạ Hồng có hai anh em nhà họ Đặng, một tên là Thiện Minh, một tên là Thiện Xạ xuống biển đánh cá gặp một vật lạ giống như hình cây gỗ, dài hơn 3 thước, màu sắc như trứng quạ, dập dềnh trôi theo ngọn sóng.

Các người hãy nuôi dưỡng và bảo hộ cho cẩn thận, không được để ai xúc phạm tới. Sau này nó trưởng thành tất có thể ban phúc cho các ngươi”.

Đền thờ đặt ở xã Bố Bái, huyện Quỳnh Côi. Phía đông đền có bãi tha ma, đó chính là nơi khắc tượng ngày xưa. Trải qua các triều vua, thần đều được gia phong mỹ tự. Tới ngày nay đền đó vẫn rất là linh ứng.
